About

The Avon Group for Contraception and Sexual Health is a membership group providing training and updates for doctors and nurses who have a special interest in Contraception and Sexual Health.  This Group meets 3 times a year in January, April and September and membership is currently £30 for Doctors and £15 for Nurses.  Members may attend any or all meetings in a given year.  Supper is included for attendees of each meeting.

The Avon Group for Contraception and Sexual Health originated as an Affiliated Group of the Faculty of Family Planning now the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare back in 1998. Although the Faculty no longer has affiliated groups many have survived and flourish.

The group aims to provide a high quality of educational meetings to doctors, nurses and health advisers, providing contraception sexual and reproductive health care to the populations within Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. This includes primary care and specialist services.

The objectives of the group are to provide a forum for clinical staff working in Contraception and Sexual Health to meet, share ideas and network, providing an interface between primary and secondary care.

The meetings provide high quality continuing professional development (CPD) for health care professionals.  This can, where required, be used towards recertification for DFSRH, MFSRH and FSRH Letters of Competence.  It can also contribute towards keeping knowledge and skills up to date in the field of contraception and sexual health as required for appraisal and revalidation.
